Somos Martina is a Colombian social enterprise and B Corp that designs and commercializes reusable absorbent underwear for menstruation, postpartum recovery, and light incontinence. Founded in 2019, our mission is to make menstrual care more accessible, sustainable, and dignified while advancing gender equity. We combine fashion, innovation, and sustainability to create BCI organic cotton, seamless reusable period underwear. We are addressing menstrual inequity while reducing environmental waste.Our products are designed to provide up to 12 hours of protection and can replace hundreds of disposable pads and tampons throughout their lifespan, reducing, household expenses, environmental waste and also taking care of women's health providing a product without chemicals ( unlike tampons and pads) Beyond product innovation, Somos Martina works to advance menstrual equity through education, advocacy, and community engagement. We partner with schools, companies, NGOs, healthcare professionals, and public institutions to provide menstrual health education and improve access to sustainable menstrual products, particularly among vulnerable populations. Part of our revenue goes to our reusable pads sewing workshops for women in vulnerable areas combined with sexual and menstrual education. One of our flagship initiatives is The Period Uniform, a project that integrates reusable period underwear into school uniforms to reduce menstruation-related absenteeism and help ensure that girls can attend school with confidence and dignity. We started this initiative because in latin America 1 of 4 girls skip school when they have their period because of economic barriers to gen menstrual products. In colombia 15 perfect of women experience this challenge and that number increases to 94 % in vulnerable areas. The initiative has received international recognition, including a Grand Clio Health Award and two Graphite Pencils at the D&AD Awards. Our impact model combines product access, education, and women's economic empowerment. Through partnerships and community programs, we have reached thousands of girls and women with menstrual health education and reusable menstrual products. At the same time, we contribute to reducing plastic waste generated by disposable menstrual products and support a more sustainable approach to menstrual care. At Somos Martina, we believe menstruation should never be a barrier to education, participation, opportunity, or well-being. Our goal is to build a future where every person who menstruates has access to safe, affordable, and sustainable menstrual care.
