The Barbados Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (BADMC) was established by a legislative Act (Cap. 254) of Parliament in 1993. A state-owned enterprise of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, Fisheries & Water Resource Management (MAFFW) of Barbados, BADMC is mandated to catalyse sustainable agribusiness for SME agripreneurs and food enterprises in Barbados. Mission: To develop agriculture in Barbados by leveraging innovative technologies, high value technical expertise and responsive market facilitation services to create opportunities for investment that engenders enterprise, food security and prosperity for our nation. The Corporation’s work is facilitated through three mission-critical developmental divisions: Agricultural Services, Agribusiness and the State Trading Enterprise. Agricultural Services division Provides non-potable crop irrigation, subsidized land lease, motor tractor cultivation and web based agricultural data collection and extension advisory services, as well as access to affordable crop seeds, agro-chemicals, equipment and other critical crop farming inputs and supplies to farmers in Barbados. Agribusiness division Commercially develops, produces, retails and promotes innovative value added food utilising local agricultural produce in partnership with local crop and livestock farmers. The Food Innovation Units of the Agribusiness Division also produce the CARMETA’S (pronounced “CAR-MEE-TAHS”) family of gluten-free flours, flour mixes, baked goods, desserts and seasoned meats which exclusively feature locally sourced agricultural produce - primarily cassava, sweet potato, breadfruit, beef, pork and blackbelly lamb - as their main ingredients. State Trading Enterprise division Responsibly manages national distribution of import-controlled fresh poultry, vegetable produce and agribusiness inputs in support of local agricultural sub-sectors.
