Problem Mushrooms are globally appreciated for their nutritional value and medicinal properties. Their cultivation is an effective bioconversion technology of transforming wastes and woods into potentially valuable resources and could also be an important part of sustainable agriculture and forestry. Besides low fat and high protein and vitamin contents, mushrooms are rich sources of several minerals and trace elements, as well as dietary fibers. The reported medicinal effects of mushrooms include anti-inflammatory effects, with anti-inflammatory compounds of mushrooms comprising a highly diversified group in terms of their chemical structure. They include polysaccharides, terpenoids, phenolic compounds, and many other low molecular weight molecules. Of late, mushrooms have emerged as wonderful source of nutraceuticals, antioxidants, anticancer, prebiotic, immunomodulating, anti-inflammatory, cardiovascular, antimicrobial, and antidiabetic. Owing to the synergistic action of present bioactive molecules, majority of mushroom products possess beneficial health effects and can be used on a regular basis without harm. Therefore, they are considered as perspective organisms to develop different healthcare biotech product. Mushrooms could potentially be very important in future food supplies and in new dimensions of sustainable agriculture and Forestry which is inline with NELIS 4revs plan. Although Nigeria has the advantage of favorable agroclimate, abundance of agrowastes, relatively low-cost labour, and a rich fungal biodiversity, it has witnessed a lukewarm response in growth of mushroom cultivation The per capita consumption of mushrooms in Nigeria is also very meager and is even less than 10g per year. Solution mushroom production as well as in the dissemination of knowledge about mushroom cultivation to Young Africans who will be ready to buy into the future thereby teaching them the sustainability part that centers around 3Ps, which are People, Planet and Profit. Beneficiaries 1. Young Men and Women will benefit from our free trainings. 2. An Average Nigerian adult is diabetic, many have Cancer and all manner of deceases. Since mushrooms help prevent/cure Diabetes, Cancer etc., it's beneficial to all in the longrun 3. The Climate will also benefit as our method of production is AGROWASTES BIO-CONVERSION TECHNOLOGY TO GROW MUSHROOMS Description of Positive Social/Environmental Impacts * Explain what are the main social and/or environmental impacts that your project or business' solution creates This Project is addressing the first 3 as well as goal 8, 9, 11, &13 SDGs which are, 1. No Poverty: Mushroom (Agaricus bisporus) production is a lucrative and profitable cottage industry for low income rural households (Lelley, 1988) and this industry is providing full and part time employment to rural and urban poor and marginal people in many developing countries. 2. Zero Hunger: 2019 Global Hunger Index, Nigeria ranks 93rd out of 117 qualifying countries. With a score of 27.9, Nigeria suffers from a level of hunger that is serious. The only solution is Mass production of food and that's exactly one of our goals. 3. Good Health and Well-being 8. Decent Work and Economic Growth 9. Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure 11.
