Description
The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is calling on consulting firms to carry out the structural and functional evaluation of existing pavements in specific road sections in the province of Entre Ríos, Argentina. The objective of the study is to collect and interpret high-precision technical inputs to support the executive projects of road rehabilitation, reinforcement or reconstruction within the framework of operation AR-L1436.
1. Field tests and structural auscultation
- Impact Deflectometry (FWD): Measurement of deflections under the AASHTO 1993/96 methodology with equipment capable of applying variable loads (7-350 kN). The deformation bowls will be recorded every 100 meters in alternating arrangement (staggered), using segmented plates, seven geophones and temperature sensors.
- Coring and DCP: Drilling and coring asphalt every 2.5 km to measure thicknesses and analyze the bonded layers. In addition, Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP) tests will be carried out to characterize the unbound layers and the subgrade.
- Opening of pits: Excavation of reconnaissance pits (at least one every 5 km in each direction of traffic) in the external footprint of the road to determine the density in situ using the sand cone method and extract soil samples.
- Auscultation with auscultation: Drilling in coincidence with the pits up to a minimum depth of 1.80 meters to classify the soils according to the HRB system (AASHTO), measure natural humidity and detect the depth of the water table.
2. Surface Assessment and Backcalculation Modelling
- Functional and visual evaluation: Identification and quantification of surface deterioration under the methodology of the National Highway Directorate (DNV), including measurement of road widths every 500 meters and a georeferenced photographic survey every 250 meters.
- Homogeneous zoning: Determination of sections with uniform structural behavior based on deflectometric parameters, following the guidelines of Appendix J of the AASHTO guide (1993).
- Backcalculation analysis: Use of specialized software for the estimation of the elastic moduli of each layer, technically determining the resilient modulus of the subgrade (Mr) and the remaining Structural Number (SN) of the pavement.
3. Executive projects to be developed
The sectoral technical reports, zoning and structural engineering reports will serve as the definitive basis for the delivery of the following two projects at the executive design level:
- Project 1 (Provincial Routes S 125 and S 154): Rehabilitation and reconstruction of the roadway in the section R.N. Nº 12 (Ma. Luisa) – Gral. Racedo and Gral. Racedo – Puiggari, with a total length of 23.3 km.
- Project 2 (Provincial Route No. 6): Rehabilitation and reconstruction of the roadway in the section R.N. No. 18 – R.P. No. 39, with a total length of 63.0 km.
Note: Interested companies should review the requirements on the BEO Bidder Portal.
