The initiative, presented at the Plenary Meeting of the Americas Business Dialogue (ABD) in the Dominican Republic, seeks to connect governments and businesses to boost growth and economic development in the region.
SANTO DOMINGO – The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) launched a “Tourism Task Force” during the Plenary Meeting of the Americas Business Dialogue (ABD), with the goal of positioning the sector as an engine for economic growth in Latin America and the Caribbean by strengthening links between the public and private sectors.
A tourism program in Salta, Argentina, shows how tourism can be a powerful tool to promote the inclusion of women in traditionally male spaces, such as construction. The experience boosted their participation from public works to environmental management, offering important lessons to replicate in other regions.
Tourism is one of the main sectors with great growth potential in Andean economies. In the context of advancing a process of productive transformation, several countries in the Andean Region have identified tourism as a sector with significant development potential. To date, this sector has played only a limited role in these economies, a role that was further diminished by the pandemic. Despite this limited role, its growth potential is significant, especially considering the vast natural and cultural capital that makes Andean countries unique.
Building on this idea, this study explores how the tourism sector in Bolivia can play a more prominent role. This is one of six notes that examine this question for each of the Andean countries — Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela — as well as for the region as a whole. Specifically, it explores the current state of the sector, the relevant institutional framework in the country, and two case studies of assets with development potential.
Latin America and the Caribbean have witnessed a boom in the tourism industry over the past few decades, becoming a true driving force for the economies of the region. On World Tourism Day, it is essential to reflect on how this sector not only satisfies travelers' quest for new experiences but also fuels internationalization and economic and social development in the region.
El turismo es una de las principales actividades económicas en lemundo por que permite la integración armónica de factores sociales, culturales, económicos y ambientales para beneficio de las naciones. Diferentes regiones y países actualmente basan una parte importante de su desarrollo en la promoción del turismo, teniendo en cuenta que genera beneficios de alto impacto sobre las comunidades de los lugares donde se realiza.
El Departamento Nacional de Planeación (DNP), a través de la Dirección de Infraestructura y Energía Sostenible (DIES), evidencia la necesidad de formulario una dirección dirigida a las micro y pequeñas empresas, en los sectores económicos de comercio, industria, logística, y transporte, que permita gestionar los costos logísticos involucrados en sus procesos y actividades. Este documento presenta la metodología para que dichas empresas cuenten con herramientas para realizar de manera apropiada y técnicamente la clasificación, medición, registro y contabilización de los costos logísticos asociados a sus operaciones.
