CASA APIS is a central cooperative of several small beekeepers located in the Northeast region of Brazil. Based on the principles of the solidary economic, fair trade and sustainable development, CASA APIS is formed by the association of 3 small beekeeper cooperatives. It practices principles of democratic self management, assuring full participation of all beekeepers, allowing the exercise of diversified and innovative ideas, financial and administrative transparency. Aligned with the Brazilian government’s strategies to combat poverty, CASA APIS was created to develop organization skills, provide training, and promote integrations of the beekeeping sector in economy of the region. CAS APIS processes and commercializes honey productions of more than 900 small beekeeping families, distributed in 27 rural counties of the states of PiauĂ.
