William Usher

Mr. Usher is an Agricultural Engineer by profession with specific emphasis in sustainable agricultural development and tropical crop nutrition. Mr. Usher is currently the General Manger of Green Care Products Ltd and Belize Agro Enterprise Ltd.

Mr. Usher has been involved with various EU projects including the Belize Rural Development Project and the Sugar Diversification Project and in developing project proposal and assessment studies for EU and other funding. As a consultant he was recently engaged as Agronomist, Advisor to the Sugar Industry Research and Development Institute as a short term consultant for the Belize Accompanying Measures for Sugar (BAMS) project; as well he was part of the Environmental Impact Assessment Consulting Team for Green Tropics Ltd in which he imparts his expertise in the area of sustainable sugarcane crop development. He was also recently hired by French consulting firm (SOFRECO), under the Banana Support Programme to Belize by the European Union to do a need assessment for competitiveness of Belize’s banana production and industry. In other missions he was engaged as Lead consultant in the development of proposals for the government of Belize such as the Belize Rural Development Programme 11; for BELTRAIDE, a quasi-government institution responsible for trade promotion and investment in Belize; for the YWCA; for La Immaculada Credit Union; for the Citrus Growers Association of Belize; for Belize Tourism Industry Association by means of the Interamerican Development Bank and others.

Mr. Usher possesses extensive experience in utilizing various research methodologies and in conducting surveys and analyses in the areas of agriculture research and productivity. As the Director of Research and Development in the Ministry of Agriculture and as a Lead consultant for A.N.D. Consulting Services he has represented the government and his businesses internationally. Also, his necessary involvement in the rural economic issues in agriculture and rural development that affects the business environment was and continues to be areas of work. Mr. Usher has been involved in marketing activities in both the tourism and agriculture sector for improvement and development of rural enterprise and the better marketing of products and services being offered from such enterprises. Also, his familiarity and working relations with the natural resource, agricultural and tourism sectors, agencies involved with rural development, and companies and institutions involved in the sugar cane production and processing, citrus production and processing, banana production, papaya production and processing, the shrimp industry and the tourism service industry in Belize, are tremendous assets to his ability.
