Description
The Republic of Suriname, through the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture, has requested financing from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) for the Paramaribo Urban Rehabilitation Program (PURP) II. This consultancy aims to preserve and showcase the Jodensavanne Archaeological Site, a UNESCO World Heritage property. By creating a centralized digital archive and a public-facing website, the project intends to secure historical data and enhance global access to Suriname's unique archaeological heritage, ensuring its long-term management and sustainability.
Scope of services
The assignment falls under the Urban Development and Housing sector and includes the following technical requirements:
Digital Archive Development: Creating a comprehensive digital archaeological database for the Jodensavanne site.
Website Design: Developing a dedicated web platform to deliver and visualize archaeological data to the public.
Capacity Building: Installing the necessary skills and infrastructure for the long-term operation and management of the archive and website.
Sustainability: Establishing a framework that ensures the digital program remains functional, accessible, and updated over time.
Qualification requirements
The selection follows IDB policies for contracting consultants. Interested firms must demonstrate:
Specialization: The firm must be specialized in historical and/or digital archaeology with at least 10 years of experience in creating digital databases.
Track Record: Successful completion of at least two similar assignments for archaeological sites, preferably World Heritage properties.
Team Composition: A multidisciplinary team including a Team Leader (Digital Archive Expert), an Archaeologist, and a Website Development Expert.
Contextual Knowledge: Demonstrated capacity to handle the specific cultural and institutional requirements of the region.
Shortlist: A shortlist of 5 to 8 eligible firms will be established. Firms may associate in a Joint Venture to enhance their technical profile.
