Description
The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is seeking to hire a consulting firm to carry out an in-depth diagnosis of mining suppliers in Argentina, Colombia and Peru. The central focus is the integration of these local actors into the value chains of strategic minerals for the energy transition (such as lithium or copper) through the Integrated Corridors of the Mining Value Chain (IMVCC) model.
Key points of this consultancy:
1. Territorial and functional diagnosis
The firm must identify and characterize local suppliers (goods, services, contractors and technical institutions) in a territory prioritized by country. A systematized inventory will be developed to evaluate their productive and technological capacities and their current degree of linkage with mining operations and regional economic corridors.
2. Gap Analysis for Sophistication
Obstacles that prevent local companies from climbing the value chain will be identified. The analysis will address:
Technical and technological gaps: Capacity for innovation and adoption of standards.
Institutional and environmental gaps: Regulatory barriers, access to financing, and articulation between ecosystem actors.
Logistics systems: Relationship between suppliers and the enabling infrastructure that structures mining corridors.
3. Roadmaps and Pilot Initiatives
The final product will consist of country-differentiated action plans that include:
Pilot Initiatives: At least 3 concrete proposals per country, detailed in technical sheets with costs, responsible actors and implementation mechanisms.
Public Policies: Recommendations for institutional strengthening and territorial productive development.
Scalability: Proposals aimed at strengthening local participation in processing and high value-added services within the IMVCC initiative.
Operational details of the consultancy
Target minerals: Exclusive focus on critical minerals (Copper or Lithium).
Methodology: Includes review of IDB secondary information, fieldwork, semi-structured interviews, and meetings with key stakeholders in the three countries.
Purpose: To transform the diagnosis into investment and policy tools that improve the competitiveness and sustainability of regional mining.
Note: Interested companies should review the registration requirements on the BEO Bidder Portal.
