About me
Dr. Mateus Araújo e Silva is an expert in travel demand modeling. He is best known for his development and ongoing improvement of travel survey methods and the disaggregate travel demand modelling for the forecasting of regional passenger travel demand, and for enabling planning agencies to develop knowledge, skills, models and software needed to implement and use these models. He developed the approach and demonstrated its value by developing travel demand models for Brazilian cities, while earning his M.Sc. and D.Sc. degrees at University of São Paulo (2006 and 2011) under the guidance of Professor Eiji Kawamoto (University of São Paulo) and Professor Kay W. Axhausen (co-Advisor at ETH Zurich). Dr. Silva has operated an independent consultancy developing numerous market demand simulators for major Brazilian firms based on stated choice data, for which he does experimental design, survey design, model estimation, programming, calibration and validation. In that capacity he has been involved in the design and implementation of several disaggregate model systems, including models for Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, Florianópolis, Buenos Aires and Curitiba. In addition to his consulting, Dr. Silva teaches at Universidade de Ribeirão Preto and contributes to the field through publications and presentations.
