NEC is widely present and it´s been operating since 1960’s in Latin America, since then it has offered multiple state of the art communication solutions for this region and still widely operates in this field. NEC is focusing on social value creation adopted by UN. In 2015, countries adopted a set of goals – SDGs - to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. In this sense, the company is developing a safe and secure environment, high-efficiency lifelines, supporting to build a better world. NEC has made groundbreaking advancements in Facial Recognition and is leading the world in biometric technologies. Facial Recognition can be employed in many fields, including public and also private areas. Making meaningful use of ICT, NEC aims to organically combine individual infrastructures and create new value together with customers and partners in a variety of fields, including governmental, law enforcement, crowd management, customs, transportation, power and energy, water and food, finance, and health care services. NEC has utilized its range of IoT solutions and AI technologies, including biometrics such as fingerprint identification and face recognition, and video analytics technologies, to realize a safe and secure society globally. Under the “Bio-IDiom” brand in various applications and in effective combinations to realize a world where “anyone can utilize digital contents safely and securely”, the company developed iris recognition, voice recognition, as well as our original ear acoustic authentication technology. Recently, NEC was named champion of the 7th Digital Security Award in the category "Best Electronic Security case of 2017". The recognition refers to the successful implementation of the project to modernize the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure carried out by the company on the project RIOgaleão. In this project, a wide range of solutions were implemented by NEC. The mission-critical system infrastructure that operates 24/365 nonstop integrated with numerous complex equipment and technologies and a wide range of networks include: IP networks, Wi-Fi, telephone PBX, CCTV, access control, public address system, fire detection and alarm system, and flight information displays and they were achieved through the technical support by highly skilled NEC IT professionals experienced in multi-platform integration. In addition, NEC formulated the following seven themes to represent this approach of social value creation: (1) “Sustainable Earth,” aiming to live in harmony with the Earth; (2) “Safer Cities & Public Services,” to make safer and more secure cities and administrative platforms; (3) realizing a safe and highly efficient “Lifeline Infrastructure”; (4) “Communication,” to support an enriched society; (5) “Industry Eco-System,” to promote value chain innovation with ICT; (6) “Work Style,” to offer diversified ways of working beyond borders; and (7) “Quality of Life,” realized in a prosperous, equal, and active society. In Latin America’s NEC has subsidiaries in Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Mexico. In 2011, the Latin America Regional Headquarter was established in São Paulo as part of the overall strategy of NEC Corporation, which centralizes the command of operations in five major regions: Asia Pacific, Greater China, EMEA (Europe-Africa-Middle East), North America and Latin America - besides Japan.
