After an in-depth 18-month study in Kigali, Yego was launched in Rwanda in 2017 as a pilot for other African nations. Yego’s mission is to provide a mobility solution to the challenges confronted by developing African nations by bridging the local demands of passengers, drivers and governments. On the Passenger side, Yego provides transparent, distance-based fares which can be paid through cash or cashless payments. Safety is enhanced by: verifying and training all drivers; real-time tracking and speed monitoring. On the Driver side, Yego provides all drivers an Intelligent Connected Fare Meter and a monthly data plan free of cost. Drivers are guaranteed a fair income (through fixed and regulated government fares) and on-going training. Furthermore, Yego provides drivers with credit scores to access discounted loans and insurance. On the Government side, Yego collaborates closely with governments to design and implement the regulatory environment for the Taxi industry. Governments are provided with: a national database of verified Drivers, Owners and Vehicles; big data analytics for traffic control and urban planning. By verifying drivers and encouraging cashless payments, Yego is helping governments secure substantial new tax revenues.
