Uruguay stands as the second largest meat supplier in China

Uruguayan meat is gaining a coveted spot in the Asian giant, generating opportunities not only for meatpacking companies but also for companies in the food and beverage sector processing complementary meat products.

According to a report by Rabobank, meat imports in China are expected to double by 2018. In 2013, imports quadrupled with respect to 2012. Argentine meat is also gradually beginning to gain space. Likewise, restrictions on Brazilian meat imports are expected to be lifted by 2014.

For companies in this sector, the 8th China – LAC Business Summit can be an excellent opportunity to contact importers and distributors in China. The summit will take place on September 12 - 14 co-organized by IDB, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and the Government of the Province of Hunan.

“Producers in China are having difficulties in meeting the existing demand for meat. This led to China becoming a major meat importer in 2013”, affirms Rabobank.
