Description

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is seeking to hire a consulting firm to implement a pilot project for sustainable forest management in the Province of Chiloé. The initiative aims to demonstrate the technical and economic viability of native forest management in the face of climate change, optimizing the production chain from silvicultural planning to the commercialization of products.

1. Planning and design of the silvicultural model
The consultancy will develop a comprehensive management proposal on an area of 5 hectares of renewals and 5 hectares of adult cinnamon forest:

Technical modeling: Design of management schemes, harvesting and business plans that optimize profitability, specifying machinery, yields and costs.

Inventories and selection: Carrying out pre-thinning and pre-cutting inventories, along with the selection of owners who have management plans approved by CONAF.

Commercial management: Identification and contact with strategic buyers (sawmills, collection centers) to ensure purchase commitments prior to operations.

2. Operational execution and production chain
The physical intervention of the forest will be carried out, documenting each phase of the process:

Forestry tasks: Execution of thinning and regeneration cutting, including felling, felling, logging, loading and transport.

Product diversification: Sorting sawn pieces, firewood and biomass for chips (green energy), evaluating the best processing options according to moisture content and market demand.

3. Data Recording and Institutional Sustainability
The project will generate critical information for future economic and social evaluation:

Yield monitoring: Detailed recording of drying times, processing costs, logistics and sales prices to ensure a robust profitability analysis.

Clean Production Agreement (APL): Coordination between owners and buyers to initiate an APL Forests and Climate Change before the Agency for Sustainability and Climate Change (ASCC-CORFO), formalizing the commitment to sustainability standards.

Note: Interested companies should review the international data management and logistics analysis experience requirements on the BEO Bidder Portal.
